Lemon Grass – A Stirring Addition to Your Tisanes

Lemon Grass (Cymbopogon citrates) is a well-known herb from Southeast Asia. It has been a staple in Thai cooking for some time, now it’s making its rounds as a flavorful ingredient in tisanes and tea blends.

The stalk of the Lemon Grass plant is used for beverages.

One of the beneficial properties of this herb is that it can contribute citrus-like lemon flavor to food or beverages without the acidic downside fruit-based ingredients. Lemon Grass can provide a nuanced lemony aroma and flavor to the tisanes it comes into contact with. Though not as fancy as high-end Lemon Myrtle, its wider production and distribution allow it to be sold much more widely, bringing many of the same qualities as Lemon Myrtle but at a lower price.

Lemon Grass has a wide variety of uses and applications. It features prominently in Southeast Asian cuisine, particularly Thai food. Lemon Grass is also prized for its citral, an essential oil used in cosmetics and perfumes.

What interests us most of all, however, is the fact that it blends wonderfully with tea, herbs, and spices. The lemony flavor it produces is a perfect substitution for individuals who either for medical reasons or personal preference avoid the citric acid found in actual lemon or lime juice.

We carry organic and nonorganic Lemon Grass options in both C/S and TBC cut sizes.  QTrade currently has three house blends containing Lemon Grass: Pillow Bliss, Chamomile Blend, and Pink Lemonade. Please contact us today for a sample.
